Missions Events Throughout the year, our church engages in a variety of missions projects. Summer Mission Trip Each summer, a team of youth and adults travels to a mission site for a week-long mission trip. Over the past several years, we've been to Smyrna, Tennessee, to help with the restoration of the Wherry Housing Project, and to Perry County, Alabama, to assist in community restoration efforts. In 2004 and 2005, we were partners with Park Slope Community Church in Brooklyn, NY. Last year, we went to Charleston WV, to work with WEst Charleston Baptist Church under the leadership of Norm Cannada. We conducted a variety of servant evangelism projects, did some home repair in the community, and led a basketball camp/day camp for children and youth. Our 2007 plans have been finalized. We will be returning to Charleston WV, to work with West Charleston Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Norm Cannada. The date is July 7th-14th. Further information about the mission trip can be found on the fact sheet. Operation Inasmuch Each September, our church mobilizes for Operation Inasmuch, a one-day missions blitz in our own community. Working with the county Social Services Department, we identify individuals and families in our area in need of home repair or yard work jobs they are unable to do themselves. We also offer a free car clinic, which provides an oil change and safety inspection for Social Service clients. On the third Saturday of September, we assemble for breakfast, then disperse for a day of mission work at these sites. The day concludes with a celebration supper at the church. Past Operation Inasmuch projects have involved replacing windows, installing new kitchen countertops, and replacing floor and carpeting. We've cleaned up overgrown yards, restored the flower beds at the local elementary school, and even removed an ancient above-ground swimming pool. |
